Learn To Prepare Your Own Tax Return!

Today more and more people are relying on paid tax professionals to handle their income tax preparation and other business affairs.  With tax laws changing every year it has become to complicated for average Americans to properly prepare their own returns.

Unclaimed Refunds

The Internal Revenue service has estimated that every year taxpayers fail to claim more than $2.5 billion in unclaimed credits and refunds.  Most of this is the result of the taxpayer preparing their own return without being adequately knowledgeable.

IR-2003-50, April 11, 2003

WASHINGTON — As April 15 draws near, the Internal Revenue Service reminds taxpayers that this year’s Tax Day represents several important deadlines.  Besides the traditional filing deadline for most individuals, Tuesday marks the deadline for filing to claim more than $2.5 billion in unclaimed 1999 refunds.

Some of these people may have had taxes withheld from their wages but had too little income to require filing a tax return. Others may not have had any tax withheld but would be eligible for the refundable Earned Income Tax Credit.

Individual Income Tax Course

The INCOME TAX SCHOOL is designed to teach you about the basics of tax preparation starting with elementary topics such as who must file, which form to use and when and how to file.  The Course then progresses to basic but often misunderstood subjects such as:

Basic Tax Forms & Requirements                         Exemptions and dependents

Standard and itemized deductions                       Earned Income Credit

Child Care Credits                                            Capital Gains and Losses

W-2 & 1099 Forms                                           Interest & Dividends

Other Income                                                  Education Credits & Deductions

Individual Retirement Accounts                           Retirement Contribution Credits

Electronic Filing                                                Recent Tax Law Changes

Along with the personal benefits to you as a taxpayer, many people with spare time available during tax season – including early retirees, homemakers, career changers, teachers and moonlighting professionals – are learning tax preparation skills and can have a second career in the tax preparation business.  Employment is not guaranteed, and graduates are not obligated to accept employment.
